Valerie’s journey began in a school under Po Leung Kuk, where community service is a core value. She has extensive volunteer experience, including visiting tenants in subdivided flats, distributing food supplies to elderly homes, and teaching underprivileged children in Yaowawit School in Phang Nga. Her interactions with marginalised communities instilled in her deep lessons of compassion and empathy, opening her eyes to the often overlooked parts of society.
As avid reader and writer, Valerie channels her passion for storytelling to uplift marginalised communities. Inspired by how books made her feel seen and understood – much like her favourite author, John Green – she writes motivational stories that resonate with those facing academic, emotional, or financial challenges, helping them feel less alone. Her writing often draws from children she met during her volunteer work, aiming to instill hope that obstacles can be overcome.
Valerie’s dedication to service extends beyond writing. As a prefect, mentor, and club leader in her secondary school, and through her involvement with Inner City Ministries and Paws United Charity, she actively contributes to her community. Looking ahead, she aspires to join Hong Kong’s Duty Lawyer scheme, using her legal knowledge to provide free advice and challenge the notion that law is a privilege reserved for the wealthy.
With a growing desire to serve and a deep love for the community, Valerie continues to cultivate her vision through writing, volunteering, and legal advocacy, empowering others through empathy and action.
