Peter is a proactive community volunteer committed to building connections and creating positive social impact, particularly for children and older people. His service experiences have strengthened his belief that meaningful support begins with patience, empathy and a genuine understanding of people’s needs.

Through The Salvation Army’s ‘童學.共樂’ programme, Peter supported primary school pupils in Sham Shui Po with their learning and examination preparation. Working closely with social workers gave him a deeper understanding of the different circumstances faced by each pupil and encouraged him to consider how meaningful support could extend beyond academic learning.

Peter’s commitment to intergenerational care also led him to join the Generations Connect Summer Internship. During more than 120 hours of service, he engaged older people through community activities, health-promotion initiatives, and digital health literacy support. Home visits across all 18 districts of Hong Kong gave him first-hand insight into social isolation, e-health literacy and access to community resources. These encounters deepened his understanding of how healthcare and community services can work together to strengthen well-being, dignity and independence.

Building healthier and more connected communities will remain at the heart of Peter’s contribution as a Scholar of The D. H. Chen Foundation. Through the Scholarship Programme, he hopes to broaden his understanding of community needs and combine healthcare knowledge with attentive listening and practical action to contribute to healthier, more connected communities and solutions that are sustainable and grounded in the needs of the people they serve.
