Nickolas Cheung

Risk Management and Business Intelligence, HKUST

Nickolas’s commitment to social service is deeply rooted in personal experience. Raised in a single-parent household facing financial hardship, his family received vital support from Hong Kong’s social welfare system and local nonprofits. These firsthand experiences of compassion ignited in him a lifelong dedication to give back and become a source of hope for others facing similar challenges.

Nickolas’s strengths lie in his ability to connect with people and execute projects effectively. As a freelance photographer collaborating with various nonprofits, he has developed strong interpersonal skills, learning that true service is about listening and empowering others. Managing his own projects independently has also instilled in him a high level of self-discipline and execution skills—key qualities for effective leadership.

Nickolas aspires to leverage his business acumen not for profit, but for people. His studies in operations management, economics, and accounting provide a strong foundation for building sustainable and compassionate initiatives. Passionate about lifelong learning, he is also constantly exploring psychology to better understand and respond to community needs.

Nickolas believes that The D. H. Chen Scholarship Programme would be a vital catalyst, enabling him to deepen his knowledge and broaden his horizons through local and international exchanges. It would empower him to engage more deeply in social services and refine the practical skills needed to transform his empathy into effective action. His ultimate goal is to become a leader who fosters a more connected, harmonious, and compassionate society—transforming the support he once received into a lasting legacy of service for others.
