Miranda’s path towards law began with mooting competitions, which transformed law from an abstract discipline into a practical framework for resolving human conflict. Now pursuing a dual degree in Arts and Laws, she is sharpening her analytical capabilities while deepening her appreciation of the human dimension of justice. She firmly believes that legal practice should be grounded in empathy, human dignity and fairness.

Her commitment to service began early. Through her involvement with the Red Cross since Secondary 1, Miranda received training in first aid, design thinking and service skills, learning that meaningful contribution grows from knowledge, empathy and genuine dedication. This insight inspired her to launch initiatives at secondary school, including an anonymous school-wide mailbox through which students could seek peer counselling and emotional support.

Volunteer teaching in rural Mainland China further broadened Miranda’s perspective. Working with children in under-resourced communities taught her humility, active listening and the value of stepping beyond her comfort zone. Looking ahead, she hopes to begin her legal career as a duty lawyer providing pro bono services to underprivileged members of the public, and eventually pursue international law to advocate for people affected by war, persecution and human rights violations.

Inspired by Dr Chen’s motto, ‘Care for others as well as you would care for yourself’, Miranda hopes to place empathy, dignity and fairness at the heart of her journey as a Scholar of The D. H. Chen Foundation. The Scholarship Programme will support her aspiration to combine legal knowledge with advocacy and service, empowering vulnerable groups and contributing to a more just and compassionate world.
