Since high school, Kathy’s experience as a mental health patient has heightened her awareness of the significant disparity between the resources available and the actual needs of individuals suffering from mental health issues in Hong Kong. This realization has fueled her deep passion to effect a substantial change in this critical area.
Kathy, a committee member and volunteer at CompanionHK since 2023, has provided her with invaluable hands-on experience. She has had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the unmet needs of marginalized communities, including teenagers and individuals with disabilities. Leveraging Kathy’s extensive art background, Kathy currently serves as a teacher assistant in art classes for severely ill children at the Prince of Wales Hospital, where she strives to bring creativity and joy into their lives.
The ultimate goal of Kathy is to establish a comprehensive platform or organization that offers mental health courses and promotes positive mental wellbeing among marginalized groups. The experiences of her mother’s battle with cancer and the despair faced by the deaf community due to deficient mental health resources have built up her determination to not just advocate for change, but to drive it. Kathy is dedicated to addressing the unmet psychological needs of society and reforming mental health policies.
With unwavering passion and persistence, Kathy is committed to learning from various social enterprises and NGOs to bring her vision of a more inclusive and supportive mental health landscape in Hong Kong to life. Becoming a Scholar will propel her on a valuable journey in the future.
