Herbert has dedicated himself to serving his community through compassionate care and volunteer work. His journey into medicine was inspired by an awareness of disparities faced by underprivileged populations, fuelling his desire to bridge healthcare gaps in society. Over the past few years, he has volunteered on both local and international outreach trips, supporting clinic renovations and visiting an orphanage in Sri Lanka. Additionally, he has organised DIY workshops for individuals with mental disabilities. These experiences have nurtured a deep sense of empathy and strengthened his resolve to help those in need.

As President of the Hong Kong Medical Genetics and Genomics Student Society 2025-26, Herbert actively raises awareness of the challenges confronted by patients with rare diseases. Through hosting podcasts and organising human library events, he promotes social inclusion and empathy for these often-overlooked patients.

In addition to his advocacy, Herbert has contributed to medical investigations on thyroid eye disease, gaining hands-on experience in clinical ophthalmic examinations. His collaborative work has further honed his leadership and teamwork skills, qualities essential for driving impactful changes in healthcare and beyond.

As a Scholar of The D. H. Chen Foundation, Herbert looks forward to learning from mentors and connected with like-minded Scholars to transform compassion into action, all while empowering underserved communities to thrive and shine.
