Esther Tang

Psychology, CUHK

Mr. Bird Tang

Majoring in Psychology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Esther is devoted to improving the psychological well-being of the public.  Not only does she organize activities to raise mental health awareness on campus in the capacity of uBuddies’ member, she also serves as a student assistant for the project on Autistic Spectrum Disorder at the Laboratory for Brain and Education. In addition, she is involved in the Study of US Institute’s (SUSI) programs on Women’s Leadership to elevate women’s voices in society.

Realizing the struggles of deaf community to communicate with the general public,  she is currently learning Hong Kong Sign Language with the hope to promote the language and deaf culture to the mass. Esther believes that communication is essential for developing bonds with people and facilitating mutual understanding and respect.

Being aware of the inadequacy of deaf-friendly counselling services and other psychological support to the deaf, Esther aspires to promote mental health among the deaf community by introducing sign language translators to mental health practitioners. Aspiring to provide timely professional mental health service to minorities, Esther looks forward to the demanding yet fulfilling journey to build an inclusive society.
