As a lifelong art enthusiast, Ellen recognises that haute couture can often feel distant from the wider public. Determined to bridge this gap, she built on her BTEC International Level 3 qualification in Art and Design (Visual Studies), for which she earned a Distinction, to explore how fashion can promote cultural appreciation and sustainability in Hong Kong.
Ellen developed her creative leadership through a collaborative project with the international non-governmental organisation Cotton Incorporated and street-fashion retailer Open Dialogue. As group leader, she guided her team in creating a sustainable activewear collection that was selected for physical production, material prototyping and public exhibition. She further developed her industry knowledge through the INSIDE LVMH Certificate in Creation, Branding, Operations and Supply Chain, as well as practical experience as a Design and Product Development Intern at High Fashion Group.
Her commitment to cultural engagement extends beyond design. She has supported fashion shows including the PolyU Fashion Show and HKYDC, and served as a Student Assistant at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. As a Young Ambassador, she received a Bronze Award for outstanding collaboration while contributing to cultural initiatives and public outreach.
For Ellen, the Scholarship Programme offers an opportunity to connect creative practice with social responsibility. As part of the community of Scholars of The D. H. Chen Foundation, she hopes to explore how sustainable design, responsible production and public engagement can make fashion more inclusive, culturally meaningful and accessible to a wider audience.
