Augustine is majoring in Chinese Language Studies and Chinese Language Education at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Under the influence of his family members, he is passionate about Chinese literature and culture, and has been awarded prizes in multiple essay competitions, such as the 9th University Literature Prize organized by HKBU (2016) and the 5th LEE Sheng Hua Modern Chinese Poetry Youth Competition (2019).
However, Augustine sees Chinese literature and culture more than something he take personal pride of. He realized most of us may be materialistically happy but culturally poor and mentally unsatisfied. He also felt that the representation of modern Chinese culture could sometimes be plain, vulnerable, superficial, and stagnant.
It is therefore Augustine’s ambition to develop and promote holistic appreciation of life and culture, especially when he has benefited from the beauty of Chinese culture (classic texts, china, music, etiquette, clothing, etc.). He has shared his beliefs in a volunteer teaching program organized by the YMCA, hoping to let more students immersed into the world of Chinese culture. With the support from The D. H. Chen Foundation, Augustine believes that he is getting closer and closer to his dream.
