Alex is guided by the conviction that business and finance are not ends in themselves, but powerful tools for creating lasting social good. His interests initially spanned science and computing, with experiences ranging from mock trials and Model United Nations to science exhibitions and hackathons. This broad exploration strengthened his curiosity, adaptability and problem-solving skills, while inspiring him to consider how knowledge can be applied to empower others.

Through internships in financial services and wealth management, Alex has developed strong analytical capabilities and gained insight into how financial decisions can shape people’s opportunities and sense of security. His participation in case competitions and innovation challenges, where he was recognised as a finalist and award recipient, further strengthened his ability to collaborate, communicate ideas clearly and develop practical responses to complex challenges.

Beyond his academic and professional pursuits, Alex has broaden his perspective through Toastmasters, dragon boat training and community service. By supporting youth leadership programmes, providing eye-screening services for underprivileged families, visiting older people and contributing to environmental initiatives, he has deepened his empathy and reinforced his belief in collective progress. These experiences have shown him that meaningful impact is built not only through expertise, but also through attentive service, collaboration and sustained commitment.

Becoming a Scholar of The D. H. Chen Foundation gives Alex the opportunity to learn with peers and mentors, who share a commitment to social good, exploring how business and finance can be used to empower others and contribute to the wider good. He hopes to develop the judgement and leadership to apply his knowledge responsibly, helping individuals build greater financial confidence, security and self-sufficiency.
