Aidan Ku

Psychology, CUHK

Having experienced internet addiction and related mental health challenges, Aidan understands the difficulties and sense of hopelessness that can accompany addiction. His journey of recovery strengthened his resilience and tenacity, while deepening his empathy for others facing similar struggles. Grounded in the belief that change is possible, he hopes to support people affected by addiction through clinical psychology.

Aidan has proactively developed relevant knowledge and skills through training in peer drug counselling and Mental Health First Aid. He has also contributed to qualitative research projects at the Motivation and Emotion Laboratory in the Department of Psychology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Committed to continuous learning, he further develops his learning strategies through the iCanStudy online course and coaching.

Beyond academics, Aidan values physical activity as a way to strengthen both mind and body. As a member of the S. H. Ho College Runner’s Force, he attended weekly training and completed several local races. He also joined a military camp, where he experienced genuine fellowship and learnt the importance of humility.

Looking ahead, Aidan hopes to use the learning, mentorship and community offered by The D. H. Chen Foundation Scholarship Programme to deepen both his understanding of psychology and his appreciation of human resilience. As a Scholar of The D. H. Chen Foundation, he aspires to develop compassionate support that helps people affected by addiction recover, regain agency and lead fulfilling lives.
